PocketDock now also provides Line Out from iPhone

Frankfurt/Main, Germany — November 29, 2007

We are pleased to announce that as of today a revised version of our popular PocketDock Line Out USB is available: it now also provides the Line Out signal when connected to an iPhone, the first choice in sound quality for connecting and iPod or iPhone to home and car stereos or other Hi-Fi equipment. Furthermore we have trimmed down the 1/8" plugs on the included audio cables, so they now fit the iPhone’s recessed headphone jack too.

How it works...

When connected, the iPhone will display the screen shown below.

Tap No (or simply ignore the dialogue; it disappears after 15 secs) and your iPhone & PocketDock will work without any limitations. You may however experience audio interferences during network communication (e.g. incoming calls).

Tap Yes and the PocketDock will also work without any limitations. The iPhone however will go into Airplane Mode (which means no calls, no WiFi) and thereby reduce possible audio interferences.

Note that this dialogue might periodically reappear.



Q — Why does that dialogue appear at all?
A — Apple wants to make the user aware that attached accessories (e.g. speakers or FM transmitters) might interfere with the communication modules inside the iPhone, if not specifically designed for the iPhone. A typical example is the so-called TDMA noise (the ”knocking“ sound), which can be heard on attached speakers during incoming phone calls.

Q — But isn’t the new PocketDock Line Out USB made to work with the iPhone?
A — It does provide the Line Out signal, however as we have no influence on what’s connected to the PocketDock’s Line Out jack, we are not allowed to disable the shown screen. Doing so would also require additional semiconductors — you might have heard or read about Apple’s Authentication Coprocessor — resulting in a significantly higher unit price of the PocketDock Line Out USB.
