General

1. Does the Dock Extender work with my specific iPod/iPhone/iPad model?
The SendStation Dock Extender works with all iPod models with 30 pin dock connector, all iPhone & iPad models.

2. Does the Dock Extender support all features of my iPod/iPhone/iPad accessory?
Yes. The SendStation Dock Extender extends all connections of the dock connector, thus supports all features of your accessory, incl. USB sync & charge as well as Audio, Video and Remote Control signals, both from and to the iPod, iPhone & iPad.

3. Does the Dock Extender fit my iPod/iPhone/iPad speaker system or docking station?
The Dock Extender comes with a Universal Dock insert, which helps quickly placing the Dock Extender in the cradle and furthermore provides back support through a wire frame, against which the iPod/iPhone can lean. Accessories with docking cradle such as speakers and docking stations should be designed according to Apple’s Universal Dock standard. To learn more on that standard, click here.

For use with the SendStation Dock Extender, we recommend for example the Apple Universal Dock (MB125G/B, MB125G/C or MC746LL/A). Note that model MB125G/A is not iPhone compatible.

4. Does the Dock Extender fit the Bose® SoundDock®?
Yes. Bose SoundDocks typically come with a Universal Dock Adapter, which perfectly matches the Universal Dock Insert included with the SendStation Dock Extender.

See here for details on Bose’s Universal Dock Adapter, see above for details on Apple’s Universal Dock standard in general.

5. Does the Dock Extender fit Apple’s iPhone Docking Station, iPad Dock or iPad Keyboard Dock?
No, as these Docking Stations do not support the Apple Universal Dock Standard. It is not an electronic limitation, rather than a mechanical one: Not only does the Dock Extender not securely fit into the docking station, but due to the missing support of Apple’s Universal Dock Standard, the Universal Dock Insert which comes with the Dock Extender can’t provide the back support. Support from behind the iPod, iPhone or iPad is necessary to avoid tension and thus prevent damage from the dock connector.

See here for details on the Universal Dock Standard.

6. Can I access the headphone jack on my iPod nano with the Dock Extender attached?
Yes. The SendStationDock Extender does not block the headphone jack on the iPod nano models.

7. I've installed a new iOS firmware version onto my iPod/iPhone/iPad and the accessory below the Dock Extender stopped working. What should I do?
Note that the Dock Extender extends all 30 pins of the dock connector and is entirely passive. Its functionality therefore remains unaffected by any of Apple's hardware or firmware revisions.

Any problem occuring after updating the firmware or switching to a different iPod/iPhone/iPad model is caused by incompatibilities of the actual accessory, not the Dock Extender. You may prove this by testing the accessory without the Dock Extender inbetween. Contact the accessory manufacturer for additional support.
Sync & Charge

1. My iPod/iPhone/iPad does not charge when connected through the Dock Extender. Is this normal?
Check if the iPod/iPhone/iPad charges when connected directly to your charging/docking device (USB charger, iPod speaker system etc.).
  • If it does, then it also should with the Dock Extender inbetween (contact our Support Team if that's not the case).
  • If it does NOT, then it won't charge through the Dock Extender either. The most likely reason for this is that your charging/docking device has an outdated electronic design and still uses the FireWire pins, whereas modern iPod, all iPhone models (except for the 2G iPhone) and the iPad can only be charged through the dock connector’s USB pins.
  • If it does charge your iPod and/or iPhone, but does NOT charge your iPad, then your charging/docking device does not provide enough power (the iPad requires up to 4x more power than an iPod or iPhone) and is not designed to work with the iPad.

Note that the Dock Extender is NOT a FireWire-to-USB charging converter and NOT an iPad USB 'power booster' for outdated charging/docking devices.
Audio

1. Can I output the FM Radio audio signal of my 5G or 6G iPod nano through my iPod speaker system or Line Out jack of my docking station with the Dock Extender connected inbetween?
Yes. Note that a cable (either an earphone or audio cord) must be additionally connected to the iPod’s headphone jack, as the iPod uses that lead as antenna.

1. Does the Dock Extender fit Element Case’s Vapor for iPhone 4?
No. Unfortunately the Dock Extender’s collar is too short for Vapor's extremely recessed dock connector opening.

To overcome this issue, we are working on a revision of the Dock Extender. If you want to get notified when it becomes available, simply subscribe to our newsletter by sending any email to this address. You can unsubscribe at any time and there is no need to worry: we do hate spam too.

2. Does the Dock Extender fit Apple’s iPhone 4 Bumper case?
It does fit the Apple Bumper Rev. B, it does not fit the Bumper Rev. A.

You can distinguish those revisions by taking a close look at the dock connector opening: The Apple Bumper is made from two materials, Polycarbonate plastic and rubber. If the plastic around the dock connector is wider than on the rest of the Bumper, then it is a Rev. B bumper. If the plastic has the same width as everywhere else on the Bumper and does not extend into the rubber, then it is Rev. A.

If you have a Rev. A Bumper, you might consider to modify the case with a cutting knife or the Dock Extender with a file. We are taking about 0.2 mm in thickness and 0.8 mm in width only... We know of many customers who have done that successfully in less than a minute.

3. Does the Dock Extender fit the OtterBox Defender case for iPhone 3G/3GS?
No. Unfortunately the OtterBox Defender for iPhone 3G/3GS is one of only three known cases which does not fit the Dock Extender by default. We know of several customers who have filed down the Dock Extender by approx. 1 mm on each side of the collar to make it fit their OtterBox Defender for iPhone 3G/3GS
To overcome this issue, we are considering a revision of the Dock Extender. If you want to get notified when it becomes available, simply subscribe to our newsletter by sending any email to this address. You can unsubscribe at any time and there is no need to worry: we do hate spam too.

Note that the OtterBox Defender for iPhone 4 and OtterBox Commuter, Commuter TL and Impact cases (regardless of the iPhone generation) fit perfectly.
